Now that I’ve had a few days to settle into my home it suits me perfectly. My 500 sq ft zen space in America prepared me perfectly for the small size and efficiency of a traditional Japanese home, called a Minka. No space is wasted here. The ladder leads to the rooftop for drying clothes and in my case, a late night glass of sake.

Yesterday I woke up at 3am. I jumped out of bed at 7, slipped some shoes on, and walked over to the bakery around the corner, just as they were pulling the hot croissants out of the oven. Here was the message on the window. Hands down the second best croissant I’ve ever had in my life. The absolute best was on my first visit to Kyoto. They are definitely on to something here.
